Chiesa Santa Maria in Cappella

It was consecrated in 1090. It is probably defined "In Cappella" due to an epigraph found inside the church. The words "Sanctae Mariae", in fact, are immediately followed by "Quae Appella" that, misinterpreted by the people, gave birth to the present definition. Upon being abandoned it underwent a first intervention at the end of the 1700s and a second and radical stylistic restoration entrusted to Andrea Busiri Vici who revised the façade and restored the naves divided up by columns in 1880-1892. It has a simple façade in bricks and a Romanesque bell-tower with two orders of mullioned windows. The interior embodies three naves with antique marble and granite columns, decorated by splendid corinthian capitals.
