The museum is housed in the medieval dormitory of the convent of Santa Sabina all'Aventino and tells the story of the Order of Preachers, the convent and the Basilica of Santa Sabina through the architectural evidence - the early Christian arches and the striking little window of St Dominic - and the works of art.
Among the masterpieces on display are a 13th-century sculpture attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, a panel with Saint Vincent Ferrer by Antoniazzo Romano, the Madonna del Rosario by Sassoferrato, as well as some important unpublished 17th-century works. The museum adds to the already rich itinerary made up of the early Christian Basilica, with the VII/VIII century mural painting recently found in the archaeological excavations, the thirteenth century Cloister and the Bernini Chapel of San Domenico with frescoes attributed to Ludovico Gimignani.
