depuis 7 Octobre 2025 à 2 Novembre 2025

The Baths of Caracalla are exceptionally opening their gates in the evening for a series of guided tours - nine appointments between October 12th and November 2nd - allowing visitors to discover the monumental complex in a captivating nocturnal atmosphere.

Each evening, visitors can take 40-minute guided tours, with groups of up to 40 people. Tours are conducted in Italian and English (other languages available upon request).

Evening tours allow access to the secret spaces of the Baths of Caracalla, primarily the underground rooms, not normally open to the public, which house the complex's Antiquarium, with exceptionally important artifacts, including two exquisite mixed-style capitals from the Severan period. These underground spaces, which extend beneath the entire surface of the complex and beyond, reveal another dimension of daily life in the complex. Here were located the service areas, boilers, storage rooms, and tunnels: the true engine room that powered the baths and where hundreds of people worked. These structures, shrouded in silence and shadow, reveal an ingenious hydraulic and heating system, still partially visible.

The tour also includes a descent to discover the largest Mithraeum ever discovered in Rome, an unicum for its location within an imperial bath complex. The space, rich in symbolism, preserves part of the altar and decorations that once adorned ceremonies dedicated to the worship of the god Mithras. The tour is enhanced by the Mirror of Water, with its spectacular installations featuring lights, steam effects, and water jets, creating an atmosphere evocative of the imperial bath complex in Rome.

The scheduled evenings take place on October 12, 16, 17, 18, 24, 25, and 30, and November 1 and 2. Space is limited and reservations are required.
