
The major sporting event dedicated to promoting awareness and information about heart health and cardiovascular prevention is back.
The ninth edition includes a competitive and non-competitive road race over the following distances:
- Competitive and non-competitive 12.400 km
- Non-competitive 5.230 km
- Kids Run 1 km, for children
This exciting event takes place on the 140 hectares of the historic Ippodromo Roma Capannelle, which was founded in 1881 and is considered the first racecourse in Italy.
Cardio Race was created in 2013 to raise awareness about heart health, research into cardiovascular disease and the fight against sudden cardiac death. It takes place every year on the occasion of World Heart Day and is organised by DreamCom with the Scientific Direction of the INRC, the National Institute for Cardiovascular Research.
The Heart Village
The Heart Village will be set up at the Ippodromo delle Capannelle, with medical and themed areas where citizens can undergo free examinations for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and more: electrocardiograms, physiotherapy, osteopathic and dental examinations, and much more. There will also be activities dedicated to sport, fitness, healthy eating and psychological well-being.
The numbers
Every year, cardiovascular disease kills over 4.3 million people in Europe, accounting for 48% of all deaths (54% for women, 43% for men). The main forms are coronary heart disease and stroke. The main risk factors include smoking, poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle and alcohol consumption, not to mention conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
