On 12 and 13 December, as part of the Doppio Sogno season of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Teatro Nazionale hosts an evocative dance performance inspired by Il teatro delle marionette (On the Marionette Theatre), the 1810 essay by German playwright, poet, and writer Heinrich von Kleist.
Produced by the Kleist Forum in collaboration with the Kleist Museum, Die Seele am Faden/Soul Thread features award-winning dancer Friedemann Vogel, who, together with visual artist Thomas Lempertz, directs and brings to life an extraordinary choreography that combines dance, music, and images.
Premiered in 2024 at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, the show is a compelling solo by the famous principal dancer of the Stuttgart Ballet, accompanied by live music composed by Alisa Scetinina (GAISMA), digital visuals by Timo Kreitz, and lighting design by Fabiana Piccioli, against the backdrop of Lempertz's scenes.
