An extraordinary naturalistic and cultural experience in which the discovery of Rome's river merges with the area's millenary history: a large park at the water's edge that offers an unforgettable walk in the Tiber's biodiversity with benches, rest areas and suggestive terraces to experience Rome at 360 degrees.
The Naturalistic Oasis between Ponte Milvio and Ponte Flaminio is the fourth of the five overlook parks created thanks to Jubilee funds.
Inaugurated on 10 June 2025, the new park covers an area of 6.5 hectares on the right bank of the Tiber and offers unprecedented routes to discover Rome's river with wooden walkways to immerse oneself in a river space characterised by a tall hygrophilous forest, regenerated and enriched with new shrubs and ground cover plants.
The flora of the park can be observed by accessing the three new rest areas, made of wood, that wind along the entire route.
The first one starts from the Flaminio bridge and allows a break under the poplars and willows; it is connected to the presence of a pre-existing pool transformed into an aquatic garden with hygrophilous plants typical of the Tiber.
The second, located in the centre of the park, opens onto a splendid clearing and is particularly suitable for educational and group activities. The area is also of great naturalistic value for the presence of aquatic bird species such as cormorants, moorhens and kingfishers.
The third rest area combines the naturalistic vocation of the park with the historical-archaeological one: in fact, the ancient terminal cippus that marked the width of the Tiber riverbed (52 B.C.) is visible, whose enhancement is in addition to that of the wall made of tufa blocks, which was already surfacing among the vegetation and which has been completely brought back to light, after the removal of silt, debris and rubbish.
In the course of the work, a part of the ancient Tiber banks in tufa, dating back to the 1st century B.C., a section of the ancient Via Flaminia with the traditional imperial paving stones, and a section of 20th-century sanpietrini paving were also discovered and brought to light.
The park area integrates a portion of the cycle path along the Tiber and, in parallel, a driveway has been created between the two bridges for access by emergency and maintenance vehicles.
