Safe, accessible, inclusive, centered on a widespread network of public transport but at the same time supported by a cycle-pedestrian modes of travel. This is the most sustainable form of mobility according to technicians, experts, committees, communicators, Italian and foreign institutional representatives called to the comparison in the first "Sustainable Mobility Fair - The city of people" that took place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 in the spaces of the historic Atac depot in San Paolo, now destined for new functions.
During the event - organized by SalvaIciclisti, Movimento Diritti dei Pedoni, Odissea Quotidiana, Legambiente, Municipio VIII and with the patronage of Roma Servizi per la Mobilità, Atac, Cotral, Consulta sicurezza stradale, Asvis, Cittadinanza Attiva and Kyoto Club - on the side of commitment to public transport, it was the councilor for Mobility Eugenio Patané who in his speech at the Fair retraced the stages of the interventions on the supporting infrastructures of public transport, starting from the metro, trams and buses. Cycle paths and their design have also been given a lot of space: in eight years another 75 kilometers have been added, with work on signage that has been fundamental; furthermore, the construction of the "mother" of all cycle paths, the Grande Raccordo Anulare delle Biciclette (Great Ring Road for Bicycles), is underway. More pedestrianization and more preferential lanes are needed; cycling should not be relegated to the margins but, on the contrary, brought back to the forefront.
