Masks, dances and songs on the overwhelming notes of the tarantella are the unmissable ingredients of the great Carnival party that animates the indoor and outdoor spaces of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone on the Sunday before Shrove Tuesday, with a concert in the Sala Sinopoli preceded by a large masked parade.
The stars of the ninth edition of Tarantella del Carnevale, an original project by Ambrogio Sparagna for the Orchestra Popolare Italiana dell'Auditorium (with the Coro Popolare directed by Anna Rita Colaianni and the Gruppo Danzatori Popolari directed by Francesca Trenta), are some traditional groups of giant masks made of papier-mâché and other poor materials. Typical of the Apennine area, the masks depict both human beings and animals such as bears, goats and deer, accompanied by the sound of rattles of various proportions, made of both iron and animal bones.
Unique and enthralling, the show is a special opportunity to rediscover the ancient agricultural rituals that marked the transition from Winter to Spring, a time of awakening and blossoming, an omen and hope for an abundant harvest.
