The Teatro Sistina hosts the light and romantic musical, adapted and directed by Massimo Romeo Piparo, based on the unforgettable 1982 film by Sidney Pollack.
Defined as ‘’Broadway's Funniest Musical!" by the New York Post, Tootsie made its Broadway debut in 2019, receiving 11 nominations at the Tony Awards, celebrating the excellence in theatre and musicals, and being awarded for Best Book of a Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, in the same year.
The show, an absolute novelty on Italian stages, narrates the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented, unlucky and unemployed actor, who, to attend an audition for a musical, decides to disguise himself as a woman, becoming a convincing Dorothy Michaels, thus getting the role. With his growing success, new complications arise when Michael falls in love with one of his female colleagues, realising, with the help of his friend and housemate Jeff, the problems related to his fame as an actress and his double life.
Against the backdrop of Teresa Caruso's sets, a cast of extraordinary artists ‒ including Paolo Conticini, Enzo Iacchetti, Beatrice Baldaccini and Ilaria Fioravanti ‒ with engaging lyrics and music by David Yazbeck, performed by the live orchestra, conducted by Maestro Emanuele Friello, perform a modern and lively comedy that, kindly poking fun at the show business world, explores topics such as identity, courage, feelings and the role of women in society.
