Halfway down Via del Corso and just a stone's throw from the Trevi Fountain and the city's most iconic tourist and shopping venues, you can admire the Galleria Alberto Sordi, which with its refined Art Nouveau style is one of the most atmospheric shopping locations in the world.
Opened in 1922 as Galleria Colonna, to a design by Leghorn architect Dario Carbone, it is one of the city's most fascinating places, both for its very central location, for the quality of its architecture, and for the myth that has always accompanied this place frequented by the rising bourgeoisie anxious to experience a worldliness punctuated by family strolls, coffee house meetings and shopping in elegant shops.
In 2003, the Galleria became a shopping centre, prestigious and modern, with a considerable catchment area, the continuous presence of visitors, excellent public transport links, a privileged place for commerce, exhibitions and cultural events.
In 2009, Rome's Galleria Colonna was renamed Galleria Alberto Sordi, in homage to the great Italian actor.
After an ambitious redevelopment and restyling project, the Galleria Alberto Sordi has regained its former splendour and is now home to some of the world's most prestigious national and international brands, giving new light and attractiveness to shopping in Rome, but also to tourism, culture and excellent gastronomy, which find ample space here.
Tradition, innovation and sustainability: today, the Galleria Alberto Sordi can enclose, in a single multifunctional space, fifteen commercial activities, which harmoniously combine history, contemporaneity and respect for the environment, thanks to the BREEAM In-Use certification, which assesses the sustainability of the buildings, the containment of CO2 emissions and energy consumption, with the complete renovation of the lighting system.
The new Galleria Alberto Sordi is therefore not only a place for shopping, but also the ideal place to meet friends, to indulge in quality shopping, or to enjoy its fantastic food and wine offerings immersed in its timeless beauty.
