The XXXIX edition of the Romaeuropa Festival 2024, the European and international dance, music and theater festival, returns to twenty spaces in the capital - from the Auditorium Parco della Musica to the Argentina, India and Vascello theatres, from the Mattatoio to Villa Medici, from Maxxi at the Opera Theater - to present 100 projects of music, dance, theatre, digital arts and creation for children with 300 performances and around 700 artists from all over the world.
The title of this edition, with the general and artistic direction of Fabrizio Grifasi, is Open Space and aims to be a sharing space where we can dialogue with the complexity of our present, based on the comparison between generations and the meeting and interweaving of multiple artistic practices.
This year the Festival opens with a double appointment, which represents a bridge between contemporary tradition and the new frontiers of choreographic research: for the first time in fact at the Costanzi Theater - thanks to the choreography with the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - the Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon pays homage to Merce Cunningham by once again staging Biped, one of the most famous choreographies by the initiator of modern dance as well as a cutting-edge experiment in the dialogue between dance and technology. In the second part of the evening, a minimalist approach to sound and movement is presented, with the piece Mycelium commissioned by the Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon from the new protagonist of international dance, Christos Papadopoulos.
Furthermore, a tribute to maestro Ryuichi Sakamoto, one of the most outstanding figures on the contemporary musical scene and one of the most renowned presences in the history of the REF, is scheduled at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone.
Born in 1986 as the Villa Medici Festival, since 1987 it has been known by its current name, synonymous with exceptionality in the panorama of innovations in the field of contemporary arts.
