As part of the celebrations running until 31 December 2026 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Rome - Paris Twinning, on 29 January the Trevi Fountain will be illuminated with the colours and coats of arms of the two cities.
“Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris.”
These words sealed, in 1956, the unique twinning agreement that for over sixty years has united two of Europe’s most iconic cities.
Throughout 2026, Paris and Rome take centre stage in a wide-ranging cultural programme designed to celebrate the artistic, historical and creative heritage of the two capitals.
The initiatives, promoted through the collaboration of leading cultural institutions in Rome and Paris, reflect a shared journey that has enabled the two cities to build over time a strong bridge of culture, art and beauty.
As part of the Rome–Paris twinning, Parisian citizens are entitled to free admission to Rome’s Civic Museums, while Roman residents are granted free access to participating Parisian museums, details of which can be found at www.paris.fr.
