Also this year, on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day 2026, Memoria genera Futuro (Memory generates Future) returns, the program of events organized by Rome Capitale that aims to honor not only the victims of the Holocaust, but also Sinti and Roma, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, soldiers and opponents of fascism and Nazism from across Europe, persecuted, imprisoned and killed in Nazi concentration camps.

Over 40 events to remember, with a calendar of initiatives including meetings, screenings, concerts, theatrical performances, tours, and exhibitions promoted by the Department of Culture and the Coordination of Initiatives Related to Holocaust Remembrance Day, to reaffirm more than ever freedom, justice, and respect for human dignity, all values that constitute our democracy. The event, taking place in various cultural spaces throughout the city, is intended not only as a commemoration, but as an important opportunity to foster historical memory in a collective and shared conscience.

We would like to remind you that on January 27th at 11:30 a.m., you can take part in the free guided tour The Ancient Ghetto and its History, organized by the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura. The tour, which winds between the Portico of Octavia and the Tiber, aims to reconstruct, through the exploration of some of the original architectural features, the history and some of the most important events of the Ghetto and its community. Its strong historical and religious connotations have resisted the alternating events of marginalization from the rest of the city over the course of approximately four hundred years, while maintaining strong social and urban ties with it. (Meeting point: Piazza di Monte Savello, behind the Basilica of San Nicola in Carcere; free, reservations required: 060608).

The initiative is promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture and Coordination of Initiatives Related to Holocaust Remembrance Day, coordinated by the Department of Cultural Activities, in collaboration with the Library and Cultural Center System Institution, the Capitoline Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, and other city institutions: the Palaexpo Special Company, the National Academy of Santa Cecilia Foundation, the Cinema per Roma Foundation, the Music for Rome Foundation, the Rome Opera House Foundation, the Teatro di Roma Foundation, the Shoah Museum Foundation, the House of Memory and History Associations, the Tor Bella Monaca Theater, the Villa Pamphilj Theater, and the Nuovo Cinema Aquila.
