With 217,000 deaths, cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in Italy. Improving treatment adherence by just 15% would significantly reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular mortality. This would have a positive impact not only on patient health, but also on the optimisation of National Health Service resources.
As part of the events organized for World Heart Day, the international event celebrated every year on 29 September to raise awareness among the population and institutions about the importance of cardiovascular prevention, the multinational pharmaceutical company Daiichi-Sankyo Italia launched the campaign “Il tuo cuore nelle tue mani” (Your heart in your hands) in collaboration with INRC - Istituto Nazionale per le Ricerche Cardiovascolari (National Institute for Cardiovascular Research).
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., free cardiovascular screening will be available in Piazza del Popolo in the truck of the National Institute for Cardiovascular Research. Dedicated gazebos run by of the associations A.L.I.Ce Italia Onlus (the non-profit voluntary association for the fight against stroke), FEDERazione Associazioni Italiane Pazienti Anticoagulati (Federation of Italian Associations of Anticoagulated Patients), Fondazione Italiana per il Cuore (Italian Heart Foundation), CittadinanzAttiva APS and Conacuore - Coordinamento nazionale delle associazioni di volontariato dei cardiopatici (National Coordination of Voluntary Associations for Heart Patients) will provide useful information on cardiovascular risk.
