GEP - Giornate Europee del Patrimonio 2024. Museums and sites managed by Roma Capitale

Established in 1991, the European Heritage Days (in Italy, Giornate Europee del Patrimonio - GEPs) are one of the most participated cultural events at the European level. The event is coordinated in Italy by the Ministry of Culture, which has chosen the theme “Patrimonio in cammino - Heritage on the Way” for the 2024 edition to invite reflection on the value of cultural heritage in relation to paths, routes, connections and networks.

The two days of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September (Saturday also in the evening) are dedicated to extraordinary openings, meetings, events, guided tours and workshops, organized both in places of culture pertaining to the state and in museums and sites managed by Roma Capitale. In fact, also for this edition, the Capitoline Superintendence for Cultural Heritage joins the Heritage Days initiative with a rich program of free events aimed at an audience of all ages.

The event starts on Saturday 28 September with two walks in the Settecamini and San Giovanni neighborhoods to discover the cultural heritage and history of the area. Other scheduled initiatives include the extraordinary opening of Porta San Paolo and Porta del Popolo, a performance by the artist Laura VdB Facchini at the Gallery of Modern Art, and, in the evening, a historical-archaeological and naturalistic visit to the Villa of Maxentius.

On Sunday 29 September, new extraordinary openings are scheduled at the Tomb of the Scipios, the small Museo del Teatro Argentina and the Casali Mellini complex in Monte Mario, while a walk with the neighborhood community will lead us to the discovery of the Aqua Virgo Park in Pietralata. There will also be guided tours of the Giovanni Barracco Museum of Ancient Sculpture, the Museo delle Mura, the Ara Pacis Museum and the Centrale Montemartini. The event closes with a guided tour, with a contemporary dance performance, to the Villa of Maxentius.

The full program is available on the Musei in Comune website.
