The show A Christmas Carol at the Ghione Theater based on the story of the same name by Dickens, directed by Valentina Cognatti, takes us back to the atmosphere of Victorian London so well described by the great English author.
A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost-Story of Christmas is a short novel or long story, written by Charles Dickens (1812-1870) and illustrated by John Leech. Since the first edition, which went on sale in London in December 1843 and sold out in a few days, the story has always been considered one of Dickens' most famous and popular works. Having become increasingly famous over time thanks to hundreds of theatrical, cinematographic, television and cartoon versions, it represents the Christmas story par excellence, in the collective imagination.
At the centre of the story is Ebenezer Scrooge, a very stingy old businessman, who on the night of Christmas Eve, after an initial meeting with the ghost of Jacob Marley, his deceased partner, receives a visit from three spirits of Christmas: that of the past, the present and the future. These three shocking encounters transform Scrooge from a solitary and narrow-minded character into kind and generous one, who from that moment on will celebrate Christmas together with the others with great joy.
The show at the Ghione, whose protagonist is Gigi Palla, gives us all the beauty of the Dickensian text together with the winter and snowy atmospheres of Victorian London, with all its charm and at the same time the degradation of the English capital, dominated by poverty, from poverty and illiteracy. Thus, among suggestive music and atmospheres, those characters who have always moved the public come to life, at the same time leading them to reflect on an era full of contradictions.
