The group, enriched by two new members - Eugenio Colombo (flute and soprano sax) and Francesco Lo Cascio (vibraphone and percussion) - presents at the Casa del Jazz an anthological repertoire based on a selection of old and new songs specially arranged for the new staff.
The music of Roots Magic draws on two opposite elements of the African-American musical tradition: on the one hand, the deep Blues and origins of Charlie Patton, Skip James and Blind Willie Johnson, on the other, towards the "creative jazz" of the Sixties and Seventies by Charles Tyler and Marion Brown, up to John Carter, Julius Hemphill and Roscoe Mitchell. A vast and varied repertoire that arises around the idea of the Blues between tradition and innovation.
The musical group, formed in Rome in 2013, already has three successful albums to its credit: Hoodoo Blues & Roots Magic (2015) Last Kind Words (2017) and Take Roots Among the Stars (2020); The group has also participated in many festivals, and between 2015 and 2020 was voted among the ten best Italian groups in the Top Jazz referendum of the monthly Musica Jazz.
