The Warmth of Wood
The story begins in the small workshop of the owner’s grandfather, Francesco, in Via dei Delfini in the Ghetto.
Not only was Francesco an expert in the noble art of chiseling and shaping wood, but he also had an entrepreneurial spirit, therefore, in 1936, he moved his shop to Via Montoro, expanding his sphere to the sale of imported woods. After remaining closed during World War II, Paolucci reopened and flourished, becoming a supplier to the many artisans in the center of Rome, thanks to its strategic position.
But the business started to expand to its current size in the 1960s, during the period of economic growth and under the management of Francesco’s son, Roberto Paolucci, until eventually they were serving the entire city. The high quality of Paolucci's timber, which includes spruce imported from Austria, akatio (longhi) from Africa, and oak, ash, and beech from Yugoslavia, has made it a reference point for timber supplies, also at regional level.
Today, the business is run by Francesco Paolucci, the third generation, who not only inherited his grandfather’s name, but also his commercial attitude. In addition to supplying raw material for artisans and builders, the company – understanding market demands – now also offers an interior carpentry service for private end customers, churches, and embassies. Using the skills and experience the family has gained over almost a century, Paolucci offers meticulous craftsmanship, ranging from small repairs and restoration works on existing objects, to the entire design and realization of furnishings like wardrobes, kitchens, mezzanines, bookcases, doors, and floors, all made-to-measure and handcrafted.
Paolucci’s secret lies in understanding customer needs and knowing how to build their ideas. Customers can immerse themselves in the scent of its woods, choose the variety, the type of grain, or even the piece of wood itself, as well as watch the piece of furniture being made, step by step. A job done with passion and mastery comes with the satisfaction of creating exactly what the customer asked for.
