Considered one of the greatest intellectuals of the twentieth century, Pier Paolo Pasolini was murdered in the night between 1 and 2 November 1975 in Ostia Lido, in a muddy square of the Idroscalo.
Left abandoned for years, this area is now at the center of a natural oasis managed by the Volunteers of the Mediterranean Habitat Center Lipu in Ostia. In 2005, thanks to the commitment of the Municipality of Rome, a literary garden was created, enriched by a new stele in memory of the tragic event that broke the life of the great director-poet, from quotes and sentences taken from his works and bibliographic paths. Both the park project and the commemorative monument, showing the flight of a couple of doves, are the work of the sculptor Mario Rosati.
In the park, open every day from 9 to sunset, with direct access from via dell'Idroscalo, many cultural and territorial activities are promoted every year, including exhibitions, conferences, guided tours, book-crossing activities and literary events. Moreover, Lipu volunteers take care of the cleanliness of the area, ensuring that thousands of people from all over the world, to remember this great writer.
