The Nymphaeum of Villa Giulia, recently restored and reopened to the public, opens its doors to contemporary art for the first time in its history with Keita Miyazaki’s hybrid sculptures and installations, transforming itself into a living space for experimentation thanks to the collaboration between ETRU - Museo Nazionale Etrusco, IUVART - LoveItaly, CREA - Cantieri per il Contemporaneo and the Rosenfeld Gallery in London.
Born in Tokyo in 1983, Miyazaki lives and works between Japan and the United Kingdom. His works are featured in prestigious collections and have been exhibited in major international institutions. They translate the contrasts and fragility of contemporary life into visual poetry thanks to an unusual combination of industrial materials (mechanical components, discarded engines, metals), delicate paper origami, felt, fabric and sounds from everyday urban life, evoking worlds that oscillate between apocalypse and rebirth.
Curated by Pier Paolo Scelsi with Ilaria Cera, under the artistic direction of Riccardo Freddo, the Japanese artist’s solo exhibition in one of the most evocative locations of the Renaissance villa is an immersive journey where the splendid architecture of the 16th century interacts and intertwines with futuristic suggestions, opening up new imaginaries. A visionary language that defies canonical definitions and an unusual aesthetic to convey the beauty of imperfection and reflect on transience, the ephemeral and heritage.
