The thirteenth edition of Karawan Fest, the film festival that explores the intersection of cultures, returns to Giordano Sangalli Park, at the Alessandrino Aqueduct. The project, which began in 2012 with the aim of bringing cinema back to the Tor Pignattara neighborhood, has advanced an innovative approach from the start: addressing migration and multiculturalism in a non-dramatic way, aiming to overturn preconceived stereotypes and clichés and instead proposing unconventional visions.
Today, Karawan is a true open-air film festival, held in a specially designed arena in Giordano Sangalli Park in Tor Pignattara, the city's most multiethnic neighborhood, next to the remains of the imposing Alessandrino Aqueduct, hosting each evening premieres and international guests. The program features a Competition for feature films and one for short films in the original language with Italian subtitles, as always from various countries, plus a special closing event dedicated to Italian cinema, for a total of 15 films. #mutations is the theme of this edition.
"Mutations" means that, in a constantly evolving urban and social context where new coexistences and new environments are being created, individuals, cultures, and habits change in order to resist and develop, incorporating the best features of all, thus creating a better society. In the stories presented in the films, characters from every latitude and longitude alternate on the big screen, confronting the need for change with a touch of irony, navigating the daily chaos without losing hope and solidarity.
