Vincenzo Scolamiero's solo exhibition opens at the Hendrik Christian Andersen House Museum, with the evocative title Come sogni perduti (Like Lost Dreams), curated by Maria Giuseppina Di Monte and Roberto Gramiccia. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to delve into Scolamiero's fascinating and dreamlike universe, through a journey through canvases and installations that appear in perfect harmony in the historical and cultural context of the House Museum.
This choice of setting is not accidental, but rather the result of a profound harmony between Vincenzo Scolamiero’s works and the place that hosts them: the artist has in fact painted six large canvases designed specifically for this environment, inspired by the utopian ideals imagined by Andersen. Through these works, Scolamiero seeks the possibility of an ideal city, a meeting place between art and science, philosophy and music. It ranges from the glittering gold of the entrance canvases to the dark depths of the paintings supported by travertine structures. In this context, all the chromatism of nature, of a world in continuous change, seems to want to emerge.
The exhibition project has created an immersive journey that is not only visionary, but also emotionally engaging. This gives rise to a dialogue and a connection between the past and the present, between Andersen’s utopian and visionary ideals and Scolamiero’s creative power, which materializes in his works through an all-round sensorial experience: the installations in fact seem to seek a balance between the visible and the invisible, materializing a fantasy that almost seems to go beyond the canvas to reach the visitor’s imagination.
The works on display represent a reflection on the condition of the artist, always suspended between the irrational element and the reality of the world. Taking inspiration from the novel Lenz by the German writer Georg Büchner (1813-1837), the artist presents a dreamlike scenario, in which artistic creation becomes similar to a lost dream.
Vincenzo Scolamiero is a professor of Painting at the Department of Visual Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, the city where he lives and works. His works are preserved in important public and private collections.
