Ostia Antica Festival 2024

The perfect setting of the Roman Theater of Ostia Antica returns for one of the major events of the Roman summer; in an extraordinary context with more than two thousand years of history, in fact, it is possible to attend shows with the presence of great artists.

The extensive programme, which ranges from music to dance, from prose to stand up comedy, includes, among others, the Tenco prize Vinicio Capossela with his Ancient keys. De Reditu. The fall of the empire and other collapses, title taken from the work of the Latin poet Rutilio Namaziano, set in the midst of the decline of the Western Roman Empire. An exceptional concert in which similarities between past and present are reconnected, with a repertoire that originates from the 2006 album Ovunque proteggi (Protect everywhere).

Following, the Bosnian composer and internationally renowned musician Goran Bregovic, with his Orchestra for Weddings and Funerals, brings to the stage a show that mixes the sounds of gypsy music with traditional Bulgarian polyphonies, traditional percussion with rock music, in a whirlwind rhythm. We also remember Carmen Consoli, with Terra ca nun senti, the concert-event with which the Sicilian singer-songwriter celebrated the musical tradition of her homeland last year at the Greek Theater in Syracuse and which is now a world tour starting from New York in May and landed at the Ostia Antica Festival. In the setlist there are all his hits, together with traditional Sicilian songs, as well as songs by other artists such as Franco Battiato and Rosa Balistreri. What emerges is a narration in notes of Sicily with its landscapes, its stories and its characters.

We cannot fail to remember also the presence of the "priestess of rock" Patti Smith, with the Pasolini and the sea concert in which the great singer-songwriter, poet, photographer and painter paid homage to Pier Paolo Pasolini who, in Ostia, was murdered in 1975.
