The Museum of Classical Art in the Faculty of Letters of Sapienza, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Atelier Martenot, hosts the exhibition In search of beauty. Thirty years of Martenot in Rome, which exhibits students’ works who followed the courses of the École d'Art Martenot by Loris Liberatori, the first and only teacher in Rome authorized to use the method developed by the French educational psychologist Ginette Martenot in the 1930s.
Over 100 works, created by Loris Liberatori's students with a great variety of styles and techniques, testimony to the expressive power of this method, are presented together with over 1200 plaster casts of the masterpieces of Greek and Roman sculpture hosted by the Sapienza Gipsoteca, which collects vintage copies of masterpieces exhibited in the major museums of the world. The exhibition allows you to discover the innovative method of Martenot psychopedagogy: according to this method, each work created by the student is a unique and personal expression.
Born from an idea of the musician and pedagogue Ginette Martenot (1902-1996), the Martenot Method offers a training which educates the gaze and thought to understand the beauty surrounding us. Based on the principle of "liberation of the gesture", this method guides the individual on a deep path of growth towards art, starting from the assumption that each of us has artistic abilities, most of the time hidden.
