
Roberto Abbado conducts the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Orchestra in the Overture in F Minor, op. 84 from Ludwig van Beethoven's Egmont, in Symphony no. 1 in F Minor, op. 10 by Dmítrij Šostakóvič and in Bandiere nere (Black lags) for narrator and orchestra - taken from the text of the same name on the birth of ISIS by journalist Joby Warrick, Pulitzer Prize winner in 2016 - by Fabio Vacchi, in the world premiere of the new version for orchestra.
Awarded the important "Abbiati Award" by the Association of Italian Music Critics, Roberto Abbado is currently Principal Conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna. He studied conducting with Franco Ferrara at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He made his debut as conductor of the St. Luke's Orchestra in 1991 in New York and, since that time, has returned regularly to the United States to conduct the symphony orchestras of Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, San Francisco, as well as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He has also collaborated with soloists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Midori, Nigel Kennedy, Gil Shaham, Joshua Bell, Hilary Hahn, Vadim Repin, Sarah Chang, Yefim Bronfman, Mitsuko Uchida, Alfred Brendel, Radu Lupu, André Watts, Andras Schiff, Lang-Lang and Katia and Marielle Labèque.
