O Sentimental Machine marks the meeting between the Belgian Ictus Ensemble, the French composer François Sarhan, and the South African artist William Kentridge.
Set between the futurism and constructivism of Stalinist Russia, the show investigates man’s relationship with technical progress seen through the eyes of Russian revolutionaries.
Kentridge’s video animations, the retro-futuristic taste of images and props on Sarhan’s original music - which he performed - and Daniil Harms' lyrics create a turbulent theater of human shadows running towards the victory of the new man.
Sarhan’s music fuels the race towards the installation of terror in a wave of frenzy and unbridled artistic imagination.
