The 2025 edition of the Roma Appia Run returns on Sunday 13 April, the historic race that owes its popularity, in addition to the route that winds through some of the most fascinating wonders of Rome, to the fact that it is the only race in the world to be held on five different surfaces: asphalt, cobblestones, lava paving, the dirt road of the Caffarella Park and finally the track of Caracalla’s Baths stadium.
Now in its 26th edition, the race, starting from Via delle Terme di Caracalla and arriving at the Nando Martellini stadium, features a major innovation in the route itself: for the first time since the competition was born, an exclusive passage through the Catacombs of San Callisto is planned. In the Jubilee year, in fact, athletes have the unique opportunity to cross this important archaeological site, one of the symbolic places of Christianity, adding another precious piece of Rome's thousand-year history to the sporting experience.
Another new feature is the inclusion of the race in the Follow Your Passion circuit organized by MG Sport, which includes 15 events distributed across the country between February and November (https://followyourpassion.it/gare-running-cycling-triathlon-swimming).
This year's sporting event is made up of six races, each specific: the 16.7 km competitive and non-competitive, reserved for athletes ready to face the difficult test with the aim of obtaining a great time and improving their performance; the 9.9 km competitive and non-competitive, for enthusiasts inclined to a day of outdoor sports; the 5 km non-competitive, on a shorter route for those who are eager to participate in such an important and unique sporting event in the heart of Rome's history; and, finally, the Fulmine dell’Appia (Lightning of the Appian Way), scheduled for Saturday 12 April with trials on distances from 30 to 100 meters open to all children and teenagers from 2 to 17 years old who, after the exciting success of the last edition, with over 1000 young athletes competing, this year aims to reach 1200.
The Roma Appia Run is organized by ACSI in collaboration with ACSI Italia Atletica, ASD Roma Appia Run and ACSI Atletica Campidoglio, with the patronage of the Ministry of Sport, the Lazio Region, Rome Capital, the Appia Antica Regional Park, the Appia Antica Archaeological Park, CONI, Sport e Salute and takes place under the aegis of Fidal.
