From Saturday 7 December 2024 to Monday 6 January 2025, the mobility plan for the Christmas holidays will be operating to facilitate the use of public transport during the time of year when the demand for travel is most intense.
Below are the scheduled measures:
Free shuttles
To improve and speed up access to the streets of the historic city centre, the two free circular lines called ‘Free1’ and ‘Free2’ are confirmed again this year, the first from Termini (XX Settembre), the second from Piazzale dei Partigiani. Both will allow passengers to quickly reach Largo Chigi (Via del Corso - Galleria Alberto Sordi) with a direct connection and strategic stops along the way:
- Free1: via XX Settembre - via Pastrengo - via Volturno - viale De Nicola - piazza dei Cinquecento - via Giolitti - viale Einaudi - MA Repubblica - via Nazionale-Traforo - via del Tritone - piazza San Silvestro - L.go Chigi;
- Free2: Partigiani - Piramide (MB) - viale Aventino - Circo Massimo - Piazza Venezia - via del Corso - L.go Chigi.
The lines will operate every day, from Saturday 7 December 2024 to Monday 6 January 2025, from 9 a.m. (first departure) to 9 p.m. (last departure) and a constant frequency of 13 minutes all day. The estimated journey time of the Free lines from Partigiani / Termini to L.go Chigi is approximately 20 minutes.
The Free1, Free2 and 100 bus lines will allow car-bus exchange towards the city centre from the 3 car parks:
- LINEA Free1 exchange | FS ‘Piastra Termini’ car park - First hour free;
- LINEA Free2 exchange | Atac Partigiani car park (fare 0.80 €/hour - 5 €/day);
- LINEA 100 interchange | Saba ‘Villa Borghese’ car park - First hour free.
Tpl upgrading
The TPL lines will be reinforced on Saturday 7 December 2024, 14 December 2024, 21 December 2024 and 4 January 2025 and on public holidays: Sunday 8 December 2024, Sunday 15 December 2024, Sunday 22 December 2024, Sunday 5 January 2025 and Monday 6 January 2025. The service is intensified in the time slot 10:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
For 24 December, the day of the opening of the Holy Door, there will be an increase in service on the surface and underground lines compared to what is normally planned for Christmas Eve.
Free electric line 100
In order to facilitate travel in the Historic Centre, service on the 100 electric line, free of charge for the entire Christmas period from 7 December 2024 to 6 January 2025, is extended to include the following public holidays: Sunday 8 December 2024, Sunday 15 December 2024, Sunday 22 December 2024, Wednesday 25 December 2024, Thursday 26 December 2024, Sunday 29 December 2024, Wednesday 1 January 2025, Sunday 5 January 2025 and Monday 6 January 2025.
Intensification of Metro service
Metro service on Line A will also be intensified on Saturdays 7, 14, 21 December 2024 and 4 January 2025 and on public holidays 8, 15, 22 December 2024 and 5 and 6 January 2025. On the Metro A, additional services will be provided on Saturdays and on public holidays compared to the normal service.
On Metro C, 1 extra train will be guaranteed from mid-day until the end of service. Line A will return to regular service until 23.30 from Sunday to Thursday and until 1.30 on Friday and Saturday. On Metro A, 32 additional runs will be made on Saturdays compared to the normal service On Sundays and holidays, 48 additional runs are planned. On Metro C there will be 16 additional runs on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Extension of ZTL and ZTL A1 Trident
For the entire period from 7 December 2024 to 6 January 2025, the ZTL Centro Storico and ZTL A1 (Tridente) will be extended until 8 p.m. The same validity is therefore also extended to Saturdays and public holidays. The new hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. for all days between 7 December 2024 and 6 January 2025, excluding 25 December 2024.
Sharing Mobility offer enhancement
During the Christmas period, Sharing Mobility operators will strengthen their offer with more vehicles available and promotional initiatives aimed at encouraging the use of shared mobility.
