Officially started with the opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica on 24 December 2024, the Jubilee 2025 is the 27th ordinary universal jubilee in the history of the Church and the second jubilee celebrated by the current pontiff after the extraordinary one in 2015.
The entire jubilee period is characterized by a rich calendar of religious, cultural and social events: in addition to the celebrations and rituals addressed to all the faithful, the Holy Year is marked by several “jubilees” dedicated to different categories of people, identified according to specific professions or their role within the family, the Church and society. Each one includes moments of discussion and spirituality, with a concluding mass celebrated by the pope.
The days from 15 to 18 February are dedicated to artists and the world of culture, with an extensive program organized and coordinated by the Dicastery for Culture and Education. The first appointment on Saturday 15 February, from 9 to 11 am, is the Jubilee Audience in St. Peter’s Square, open to all. The day’s program also includes the international meeting “Sharing hope - Horizons for Cultural Heritage” at the Vatican Museums (reserved for museum directors and operators in the art and academic world and cultural institutions) and the inauguration of the exhibition space “Conciliazione 5” (from 6 to 8 pm) with the presentation of the project of Yan Pei-Ming (open event). On Sunday 16 February, at 10 am, the protagonists of the world of culture and those who work in the world of the arts, in various capacities, are invited at to a mass in St. Peter’s Basilica and, in the evening, from 8 to 10 pm, to a special White Night with the passing of the holy door.
After the weekend’s liturgical events at the Vatican, the program continues on Monday 17 February with the extraordinary visit of Pope Francis to the Cinecittà Studios reserved for a representation of artists and protagonists of the world of culture. In the afternoon, from 3 to 5.30 p.m., the Dicastery headquarters will host the meeting of Catholic cultural centers “Artisans of Hope” (invite only). The Jubilee of Artists and the World of Culture closes on Tuesday 18 February with the opening of the exhibition “Global Visual Poetry: transnational trajectories in Visual Poetry”, curated by Raffaella Perna, which will be held at the premises of the Dicastery in Piazza Pio XII (invite only).
