Villa Medici Film Festival 2024

The fourth edition of the Villa Medici Film Festival 2024 kicks off, with almost 40 screenings in theaters and outdoors. During the Festival, around thirty films are screened on three screens - including one outdoors at Villa Medici - for a truly unique experience in the symbolic places of cinema in Rome, between Via Veneto and Piazza di Spagna: films by well-known artists, experimental films, fiction, documentaries; short, medium and feature films. This year's edition is therefore characterized by a variety of narratives, without geographical or formal limits, bringing together films that stand out for the singularity of their subject or their form, always focused on important issues related to the contemporary world.

The festival is divided into three sections: the international competition, with twelve recent films of all genres and lengths; the Focus programming, with films by artists out of competition, works chosen by the jurors and special meetings with the filmmakers; finally, the great evenings in the Piazzale, with outdoor screenings of previews and restored classics.

This year's jury brings together three personalities from different artistic backgrounds who well reflect the spirit of openness of the event: Clément Cogitore, director and visual artist, Vimala Pons, theater director and actress, and Rasha Salti, curator, researcher and writer who have the task of selecting two winners among the 12 international films in competition. The jury will then award two prizes: the Villa Medici Award for the Best Film and the Special Jury Award for a particular film that has particularly impressed the jurors. These prizes, worth 5,000 and 3,000 euros respectively, also offer directors the opportunity for a residency at Villa Medici.

In addition to the jury, on this occasion, intervenes a community of authors and cinephiles at Villa Medici to develop a collective reflection on cinema and its future evolution. Since its creation in 2021, the Villa Medici Film Festival has explored the links between cinema and contemporary art by researching and trying to discover new filmic writings.
