21° Asian Film Festival

After twenty years of great success, the Asian Film Festival returns to the Cinema Farnese Arthouse in Rome, the film festival that looks at the best new productions from the Far East, created by Cineforum Robert Bresson with the artistic direction of Antonio Termenini. This twenty-first edition is full of new features: for the first time, in fact, films from Mongolia and Nepal are screened, as well as many high-level debut works distributed among the Newcomers section, the Competition and Out of Competition; without forgetting of course the new films by the great directors who are famous and known to the general public.

This edition of the festival presents more than thirty feature films from China, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, as well as the two new nations already mentioned above. There are three central themes this year: the condition of women, the coming of age through stories of adolescents, the violence in all its different forms.

The presence of many guests from different countries is expected at the event, including directors, actors and actresses, producers. In this edition, in fact, we will reflect on possible co-productions between Italy, Europe and Far Eastern countries, with different opportunities on an economic and artistic level. Finally, as usual, the festival facilitates access to screenings for young people and students and avails itself of a jury for the highly prestigious competition, while also being able to count on the support of local and national institutions. In particular among the arriving international guests, are expected the Japanese director Shinpei Yamasaki, the Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Truc Quynh, and Kim Kyung-rae, the first Korean guest in the history of the Asian Film Festival.

The event was organized thanks to the support and coordination of Embassies, Cultural Institutes, Film Commissions, government agencies of the Far Eastern countries, which during this year have strengthened their strategic partnership with the Festival in various capacities.

All films are shown in the original language with Italian subtitles.
