The Rose Garden reopens to the public

Rosa in fiore
from 15 April 2024 to 16 June 2024

On Sunday, 21 April, for the 2777th birthday of the Eternal City, the Municipal Rose Garden, a splendid garden on the slopes of the Aventine Hill, reopens with free admission.

This enchanting park boasts a suggestive view that ranges from the Circus Maximus to the remains of the Palatine Hill, from the bell tower of Santa Maria in Cosmedin to the dome of the Synagogue and the Vittoriano, to the observatory of Monte Mario.

Until 16 June, every day from 8.30 to 19.30, you can admire the blooming of the roses, walking among their unique colours and scents and retracing the history and evolution of this magnificent flower.

The widest part of the garden - which in its entirety is spread over about 10,000 square meters - hosts around 1,200 species of roses, ancient and modern, from all over the world, some very precious and little-known primordial species and others very particular or curious from a botanical point of view, such as Rosa Mutabilis, Omeiensis Pteracantha Lutea, Rosa Chinensis Virdiflora and Rosa Foetida. The smaller sector hosts the roses participating in the "Premio Roma per le Nuove Varietà" International Competition, whose 82nd edition takes place in May.
