A peculiar journey: the new permanent exhibit at the Casal de’ Pazzi Museum

from 1 March 2024 to 30 June 2024

The hunt, moments of play, encounters, mishaps, and the party after arriving on the beach, against the backdrop of a vanished prehistoric landscape: the new permanent exhibit at the Casal de’ Pazzi Museum recounts through illustrated relief plates the journey from the river to the sea of a group of Neanderthal men, women, and children.

The museum preserves just such a portion of the bed of the ancient river that flowed here 200,000 years ago, in the Middle Pleistocene, and which constitutes the imaginary starting point of the “peculiar journey” undertaken by the small nomadic community. The exhibit, located in the Pleistocene Garden, consists of 15 panels with relief illustrations and Braille-translated captions depicting imaginative but scientifically accurate scenes from the daily life of our distant ancestors.

Promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura - Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and financed by the Lazio Region, the multisensory and inclusive exhibition itinerary is aimed at everyone: people with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities, children, experts and enthusiasts of the discipline but also the merely curious who wish to get closer to the themes of the museum and prehistory.
