New bike parking system and new regulations for sharing scooters

from 31 October 2023 to 31 December 2024

Bike Parking

Parking one's bike in metro stations protected from theft and vandalism will soon be possible thanks to the Bike Parking system, which envisages the construction of a total of 2000 bike boxes in 40 metro stations. The service is dedicated to public transport users, who will be able to use their two wheels more easily when travelling the 'first mile', the stretch between home and station.

Through a free app, it will be possible to register for the service to monitor the availability of parking spaces, make a reservation, and open and close the box when picking up and dropping off the bike. Once in front of the bike box, you can push the virtual button that appears on the same app and the door will open and close automatically after about fifteen seconds. Same procedure for collecting the bike.

For information and general conditions of use of the service visit: Bike Parking (atac.roma.it). For assistance, please contact via whatsapp on +39.335.1990679.

The project starts with 7 stations - Jonio, Eur Magliana, Ponte Mammolo, Laurentina, Anagnina, Arco di Travertino, San Paolo - with 69 boxes, but soon there will be 661 until the goal of more than 2,000 boxes in total.

By the end of 2023, a further 253 bike boxes will be built in a further 11 stations - Battistini, Bologna, Conca d'Oro, Giulio Agricola, Lucio Sestio, Pigneto, Policlinico, Porta Furba, Rebibbia, Subaugusta and Torre Maura.

Scooter sharing

The new regulations for sharing scooters, entrusted to Bird, Dott and Lime, stipulate that, in order to protect urban decorum, in the Tridente ZTL the parking spaces may accommodate a maximum of 90 vehicles, 30 per operator; the number rises to 900 in the Centro Storico ZTL (300 per operator, excluding the Tridente ZTL).

In the Trastevere ZTL, on the other hand, the number of scooters increases to 70 per operator. The semi-central and peripheral zones provide parking spaces near public transport interchanges.

Parking is only permitted in authorised areas and in use by the entrusted companies. Renting, thanks to the automated control by the companies, is only considered completed if it is done in the authorised area. If parking is done outside the areas identified by the municipality, therefore, one continues to pay. If the vehicle is abandoned in places that could create danger, degradation and obstruction of traffic, a fine must be paid.

Only persons over 18 years of age who are registered with an identity card are allowed to hire.
