Exploring and enjoying cities by walking: Rome wins first place in GuruWalk’s ranking

from 18 April 2024 to 30 September 2024

Walking can be a way of life, but it is, above all, one of the easiest and most effective ways to understand the soul of a city, discover its secrets and savor its atmosphere: a “slow tourism” in other words, a more relaxed way of travelling and enjoying history and culture, which is at the same time freer and full of more surprises.  To find out which are the easiest cities to explore by walking, the website GuruWalk, which specializes in offering walking city tours, analyzed bookings and searches made on its platform over a one-year period between April 2023 and April 2024, comparing hundreds of destinations around the world.

Italy is present in the ranking with as many as six cities (Florence, Venice, Milan, Naples, Bologna, placed between the fifth and 78th positions) but it is the unparalleled beauty of Rome that has taken the top spot in the world top 100. Travelers, tourists and fans of walking city tours are won over by its timeless charm, its alleys and squares where centuries of history resonate, its churches and surprising fountains, those iconic monuments that make it an open-air museum. And Rome is also the perfect city to be enjoyed step by step: without giving up the obligatory stops such as the Colosseum, St. Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon, walking is the best way to experience it fully and glimpse details of beauty in less crowded and touristy routes.
