The Marcin Wasilewski Trio & Joe Lovano, for the first time together, are on the stage of the Auditorium to present their new album Arctic Riff, opening the Roma Jazz Festival 2021.

The quartet offers new songs by Marcin Wasilewski and other well-known songs by Joe Lovano, as well as the classic Vashkar by Carla Bley, leaving room for improvisation as in the best tradition of jazz music, with an important contribution from all the musicians, especially by Slawomir Kurkiewicz with his ability to play bass.

From the collaboration and creativity of the famous Polish trio with one of the major saxophonists of the music scene, we see the birth of a unique music in which tradition and innovation blend together in a perfect balance, creating a concentrated and deep sound.

Marcin Wasilewski, a Polish pianist, has a musical background that has been strongly influenced by the figure of Keith Jarrett; in 1990 his trio is noticed by the trumpeter Tomasz Stańko who integrates it in a quartet. Joe Lovano is, on the other hand, together with figures such as John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, one of the greatest tenor saxophones in the world jazz scene: he has performed with the most important jazz masters, such as Gunther Schuller, Herbie Hancock, Carla Bley, Michael Petrucciani and many others.
