Italian Popular Festival. Songs and strings, bellows and brass. 10th edition

Festival Popolare Italiano. Canti e corde, mantici e ottoni. X edizione-Foto: sito ufficiale turismoroma

The tenth edition of the Italian Popular Festival, which takes place at the Museum of Musical Instruments, this year is dedicated to female vocality. The theme proposed for this edition, Popular is woman, explores the relationship between female vocality and traditional music: the artists in fact, are some of the most emblematic performers on the national and international scene.

The Festival, directed by Stefano Saletti - multi-instrumentalist and composer, leading the Banda Ikona and various international world music ensembles - manages to keep its charm intact, while continually renewing itself over the years. Born in the Baobab reception center in 2015, he then moved to the Villa Pamphilj Theatre, the Green Theater and, finally from 2023, to the National Museum of Musical Instruments. In previous editions it saw the participation of the most important exponents of Italian and non-Italian popular music.

The rich program includes the Suonno d'Ajere trio, led by the voice of Irene Scarpato, who presents Nun v'annammurate, a project dedicated to the recovery of the Neapolitan tradition; also do not miss the great Arabic music with the voice of the Jordanian singer Macadi Nahhas who presents the show Singing for humanity together with the Persian musician Pejman Tadayon; we also remember the concert of the new protagonist of popular music, the Apulian singer Maria Mazzotta entitled Amoreamaro; the Argentine singer Sarita Schena with Giuseppe De Trizio and Claudio Carboni present Reves; also noteworthy is the Algerian singer Anissa Gouizi and Giovanni Seneca with the Mediterraneo battente project or the acoustic atmospheres of the Enerbia ensemble led by the violinist Maddalena Scagnelli. Finally, the Festival closes with the voice of Elena Ledda together with Mauro Palmas in the show Amaius, which represents a tribute to the musical traditions of Sardinia.

The Italian Popular Festival belongs to the Italian World Music Network, an association that brings together operators, musicians and over 25 festivals from all regions of Italy.
