Also this year, the usual appointment with the Settecolli Trophy - International Swimming Championships of Italy at the Foro Italico is back. Now in its 59th edition, this important race represents one last chance for athletes to qualify for the Fukuoka World Championships in Japan, held at the end of July.
Among the favourites, coming out of a first selection at the Italian Spring Championships in the Riccione Swimming Stadium, we have Benedetta Pilato (50 breaststroke), Simona Quadarella (200, 400, 800 and 1500 freestyle), Thomas Ceccon, Nicolò Martinenghi and Federico Poggio. As far as Gregorio Paltrinieri is concerned, even if in the 800m and 1500m freestyle he did not achieve the times required for qualification, his presence still seems indisputable at the Fukuoka World Championships, as stated by the technical director of the national swimming team Cesare Butini.
