Palazzo Merulana, CoopCulture and the Elena and Claudia Cerasi Foundation host a collective exhibition dedicated to the three great Italian masters of pictorial abstraction.
On display are about 60 works, some of large format. Among them are two double-sided works by Luigi Boille from 1958, three banners by Lamberto Pignotti, exhibited in 2019 at the Center Pompidou in Paris, a secular altarpiece and a secular parable by Bruno Aller.
The exhibition aims to investigate and highlight the infinite variations of the "sign" - the bond between the artists - and their being outsiders taking "the right distance from the collateral waste", shunning the "producers of sadness”, as Aller himself writes.
Luigi Boille makes the sign the primary and existential element, the point where everything can begin. It is the necessary element for painting which, distilled and reduced to a minimum, still manages to give life to every surface investigated.
Lamberto Pignotti is considered the pioneer of visual poetry. His alternative and pop language gives life to collages of words and images of slogans, postcards, fashion photos and news.
Bruno Aller's graphic-painting work has been characterized for a long time by the Ri-tratti series and is distant from previous artists in terms of language. Aller is, however, close to both Boille and Pignotti. Besides being linked to them by an ancient and close friendship, he shares Boille's choice in pursuing the pictorial language and realizes the social-political aspect of the art of Pignotti.
