The exhibition To touch the beauty. Maria Montessori Bruno Munari opens in Rome, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, conceived by the Omero State Tactile Museum of Ancona in collaboration with the Chiaravalle Montessori Foundation, the Bruno Munari Association and the contribution of the Montessori National Opera.
The exhibition itinerary, divided into five thematic nuclei - shapes, materials, the skin of things, alphabets and tactile narratives, manipulating and interacting - analyzes the theme of beauty through the thought of two great personalities of the twentieth century, through objects and alphabets tactile: from the thermal tablets and frosted letters of Maria Montessori to the useless machines and tactile messages of Bruno Munari. In fact, both the pedagogist and the great artist, albeit with different cultural backgrounds, have highlighted the not only educational but also aesthetic value of tactility, demonstrating that the enjoyment of beauty is also possible through the perception of the fingers.
Maria Montessori's educational model and some historical objects lent for the first time by the Montessori National Opera of Rome are presented, such as the development materials studied for sensory and hand education, defined by herself as the organ of intelligence: from solid joints to the pink tower, up to the botanical tables and the spools of colors, to accompany visitors to the discovery of objects that speak of geometry, geography, music and mathematics. More than thirty original works and editorial works are exhibited by the multifaceted artist and designer Bruno Munari, which testify to his long creative and artistic career, from the 1940s onwards, characterized by a strong attention to the themes of multisensory - tactility in particular - and by the use of a large quantity and variety of natural and industrial materials, especially for pedagogical purposes. Each section includes objects, books, tools displayed on specially conceived and designed tables, whose shapes are in harmony with the works on the wall. At the end of the itinerary, the last table-workshop allows visitors to observe, manipulate and experiment with a selection of works and objects that explore different aspects every month.
The catalogue published by Corraini, with texts in Italian and English, completes the itinerary of the exhibition.
